The office will be run by long time industry veteran Ryan Jay. Ryan will be focused on getting his team up to speed on the processes that have made Genesis the “go to” integrator for companies and institutions with mission critical projects from coast to coast.

This week the North Edmonton Clinic at the University of Alberta in Edmonton just received a certificate of Substantial Completion. Says Genesis National Sales Manager, Kevin McKay, “At $6.2 million this was one of the larger contracts that Genesis has performed. By all accounts it has been a resounding success. The schedule was very demanding and the amount of work was tremendous, yet our team were able to overcome these challenges and deliver the specialized classroom AV systems to the University in time for classes in the beginning of September.”

With these and numerous other successes, it is no wonder that companies and institutions accross the country are seeking out the Genesis Team to help them with their Systems Integration needs.

The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club and the City of Edmonton were very familiar with Genesis and the quality of work and project management that could be expected. Genesis had been part of a Team that replaced the sound system, Sony Jumbotron, and broadcast studios for the 2001 World Track and Field Games.

“It was two guys in a 10 x 10 room”, remarks Genesis founder and President, Kelly McCarthy. “Now, our company can do in a week what took us a year back then to accomplish.” With then partner, Jerry Van Dyke, McCarthy started early every day and worked late into the night, sometimes seven days a week. “We did it because we loved it,” states McCarthy, “I still love it.” Low voltage systems, audio, video, security, and telecommunications was and continues to be the company’s passion.

A year after starting out a very important addition was made to the ownership team. Dan Moran, a consultant at the time, decided to move into the contracting business and choose Genesis as the place to land. “That was our good fortune, getting Dan to join us,” remembers McCarthy, “His knowledge and experience in the construction business fueled our growth through the nineties.”

By the turn of the century Van Dyke left to pursue other opportunities leaving the current owners. Moran moved to Calgary and begun the pioneering task of growing a branch office. “That was tough,” stated Moran. “Nobody outside of Edmonton really knew our reputation for quality work. We had to start from scratch.” Genesis eventually branched out into Vancouver and Ottawa.

Over the years the greatest memories are of all the successful projects and great client relationships. McCarthy likes to ask people to name a landmark in Alberta and most likely there is a Genesis system there. The company is working towards that same sort of success in Vancouver and Ottawa.

The GE Teligence Voice over IP system has been installed in several hospital renovations around the province, however, this is the first in a new building project. GE has put many millions of dollars of research and development into the product and it shows.

“It is difficult for anyone to compete with this product,” states Sales Engineer for the project Bart Terlesky. “Although things always change, right now the Teligence System it is simply the best Nursecall System on the market.”

Genesis was also pleased to hear that it will be working with Trotter and Morton Building Technologies, the electrical subcontractor on the project. “It will be wonderful to be working with Trotter and Morton once again,” stated Vice President of Business Development for Genesis, Dan Moran. “We will be re-kindling a very successful relationship that saw both companies through the Alberta Children’s Hospital project a few years ago.”

Phase one of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2011. Phase two and additional add on projects are expected to continue well beyond 2011.

Genesis provided extensive safety training for all staff, completed a self audit, and then participated in an external peer audit. The audit is very aggressive. A failing mark on any single portion of the audit meant a fail of the complete audit. With some very dedicated work by a number of staff members, Genesis was able to pass the audit on the first attempt.

“This is just part of the plan to grow in the National Capital Region.
